A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays

The winter break provide a wealth of activities considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on festive fare, and harnessing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items emerged over the holidays, and should you overlooked any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the biggest announcement, the widely-criticized disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

Another studio renowned for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
