The local council stated they could not take off the eyes without harming the artwork.

A young person from the Land Down Under has faced legal proceedings after allegedly defacing a large blue sculpture of a mythical creature by applying plastic eyes to it.

The 19-year-old, 19 years old, participated remotely at the local court in South Australia on that day, facing with one count of damaging property.

Officials commented at the time of the recent event, the municipal authorities said that surveillance video captured a person putting artificial eyes on the sculpture, which locals have dubbed the “Blue Blob”.

Ms Vanderhorst did not enter a plea and told the judge she was unwell, as reported by media sources, with the judge advising her to secure a lawyer before her upcoming hearing in the final month of the year.

Sculpture after eye removal
The damaged sculpture following the stickers were taken off.

The following day the reported event, the city leader stated that restoration to the popular public artwork would be expensive as the stickers could not be removed without harming the art piece.

“This wilful damage to a cherished community art is unacceptable and disrespectful,” Mayor Lynette Martin remarked in September. “It is not innocent amusement, it is costly - it is also disappointing to those members of our community who have welcomed Cast in Blue.”

She said the council would pursue the “significant” restoration expenses from those accountable for the damage.

When the artwork was first proposed, it received varied responses from the area residents due to its cost and design.

Costing A$136,000 (eighty-nine thousand US dollars; £68,000), the artwork depicts a mythical megafauna, with the creators inspired by an prehistoric anteater-like marsupial discovered in nearby caverns that was “huge, slow-moving, and intriguing”.
