Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver missed the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
