Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
