President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
The president said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of her alma mater, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event prompted the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor said on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she planned to meet with the family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey told the audience at the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
