The skiing legend Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who recently made history by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my run today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn stepped away from competition in early 2019 as a result of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a significant orthopedic procedure.

With less than two months remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are highly promising.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has won over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a 69-point lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
